Thermal Grid develops thermal storage projects that convert low-cost renewable electricity into reliable industrial heat, helping heat-intensive sites reduce fossil fuel use, lower emissions and reduce exposure to gas price volatility.
Industrial and commercial sites with significant heat demand, especially those currently using natural gas, oil or biomass for process heat and located in Scotland central belt. Thermal storage benefits from economies of scale and is best suited to sites with predictable daily heat demand.
Systems are designed to be co-located with the heat user where possible. The thermal store can discharge either directly or through heat exchangers into the customer’s existing heat system. Depending on the site, this can support hot water, steam or hot air.
Thermal Grid’s commercial model is designed to deliver useful heat below the customer’s fossil-fuel heat cost. Customers benefit from reduced gas consumption, lower reportable emissions and reduced Climate Change Levy exposure on displaced fossil fuel.
